“beautifully produced”

David Ponsford, Choir and Organ, 4 stars

"Holy Mackerel! What an amazing collection this is… Amazing in every way."

Robert Aubry Davis, producer presenter of Millennium of Music

“The playing is masterful, scholarly, and convincing, and registration reflects the international flavour of the music to great effect…nothing detracted from my real enjoyment of this and I would highly recommend both repertoire and performer to listeners.”

Claire Hobbs, Organists' Review

“Kola Owolabi proves to be an imaginative, confident, and inventive advocate both for this music and for these instruments.”

Catherine Moore, American Record Guide

“Kola Owolabi's performance convinces in every respect.

Muffat's 'Apparatus' contains exceptionally fascinating music and Owolabi shows this with his developed virtuosity, sense of color and sound and his intelligent handling of these two beautiful new organs...This first complete Muffat on new North American organs is extremely successful.”

Bert Wisgerhof, orgelnieuws 5 Stars

“L'interprétation est solide et les orgues résonnent étonnement bien. On dirait une musique écrite spécifiquement pour ces instruments. On reste surpris que des instruments de fabrication récente puissent posséder une telle sonorité.”

“Superbe!”

Robert Poliquin, Mixtures (Fédération Québécoise des Ami de l'Orgue)

"This two-CD recording…showcases two highly suitable recent organs in the same cathedral, one a Fisk instrument (2018), the other a larger RIchards, Fowkes & Co (2020), both with different eighteenth-century tunings…Kola Owolabi makes full use of both in this luxurious setting… The sleeve notes are highly informative in all respects, putting the choice of organs and the music into context. They also include Kola’s own reflections on…introducing this sound world to his students: they are fortunate indeed.”

Georg Muffat (1653–1704), Apparatus musico-organisticus, 1690

C. B. Fisk, Opus 148, debut recording

Richards, Fowkes & Co., Opus 24, 2020, debut recording

Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinnati

The toccatas of Georg Muffat exemplify the late 17th century South German baroque style.  Each toccata features a different character capturing the qualities of its mode, and the pieces contrast bold harmonic progressions with clever imitative counterpoint.  This is the first recording of Muffat’s keyboard works performed on North American organs and is the debut recording of two new instruments by eminent craft organ builders influenced by European baroque organs:  the Italian style Fisk organ, Opus 148 (2018) and Richards, Fowkes & Co, Opus 24 (2021)
